International Labour Day celebrated
AALO, May 05: The International Labour Day (also known as May Day) was celebrated in a befitting manner by All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU) West Siang Unit at Gumin Kiin here on May 1.
Attending the celebration both Kegam Ete, President Lion Club and Kebom Riram, Bazaar Secretary, Old Market said that the Labour Day was first time celebrated by the labour union in 1923 at Chennai in India. They exhorted the labourers to be sincere and punctual in their services as the backbone of all success and progresses of the country.
Rinto Ete, President AAPSU cum INTUC of West Unit narrated the importance of the day. He said that labour force plays an important role for advancement of the state and pleaded for more commitment to get due care and recognition of their services. “Government has also extended many benefits and facilities for the welfare of all registered workers and it is our duty to reciprocate in the same manner,’ he said.
Topu Ete, Chairman JPTI and Liyi Ete, LO also gave their valuable advices to the workers and cautioned them against misuse by any private individual or company. Overtime work of labour is subject to over time payment, he said.

Bihu celebrated
ITANAGAR, May 05: Chairman Public Grievances Cell, APCC Hariyom Bam attended Rongali Bihu Sanmilan at Baromile Bihu Bakhori near Laluk in Assam today.
He advised the gathering to maintain identity and stressed on communal harmony amongst the people of both the state. The occasion also saw colourful performances.
Camps on basic health issues organized
ITANAGAR, May 05: Vivekananda Kendra Arunachal Unit organized camps for health workers and ‘Anandalaya Acharyas’ at VKV, Kharsang recently.
Inaugurating the camp on April 29, Kharsang Circle Officer L Naham advised the participants to learn the subjects thoroughly and serve the society thereafter. He also fondly remembered his days in VKV as a student.
Sixteen participants from Tirap and Changlang attended the camp where basic health issues, like importance of balanced diet, cleanliness, signs and symptoms of some common diseases, role of health workers etc.
In ‘Anandalaya’ 12 participants from Tirap and Lohit participated.
Experienced teachers shared their valuable knowledge with the participants. Activities were conducted with locally available materials like dry leaves, flowers etc.
Both the camps concluded on May 3.
Disaster preparedness meeting held
SEPPA, May 05: Concrete steps and action plan were taken up on disaster preparedness with the onset of monsoon for East Kameng district in a meeting in DC’s chamber here on May 3.
Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Singh while reiterating on the need to remain prepared for any types of eventualities urged the stakeholders to be active and ever ready during such times and situations.
He asked the PHED to prepare schedule for awareness campaign and sensitize the water consumers of Seppa town (colony wise) to keep them away from water borne diseases. Rationalization of water supply and checking of pipe leakage needed to be rectified, he said while asking the PHED to place a proposal to the Govt. for water tanker to meet up water crisis. He also asked DUDA to coordinate with development department for required manpower (labour) for cleanliness of Seppa town and ensure cleanliness of all the drains blocking normal flow of water. Talking about dumping site, he directed town magistrate, LRSO and DUDA to identify the site preferably a wasteland which should in no way connected to river or Nallah beyond township area.

Training for counting staff held
SEPPA, May 05: The first round of training on counting of votes and other related matters imparted to counting staffs at Kameng Hall, Seppa today.
Addressing the counting staff, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Singh said that practical training is very important as a part of preparation for counting to avoid mistakes which may create problems. He directed everyone involved in the counting process to reach counting centre by 6 am on counting day. He said that proper security arrangement made inside and outside counting hall and no one will be allowed to go inside and leave counting hall without permission of the R.O. He also briefed about the function of counting supervisors and assistant and those whoever was been assigned tasks during the day of counting.

Bid to set up Assam forest guard camp foiled
ITANAGAR, May 05: The efforts of Assam Forest officials to set up a new forest camp
at Chouldhoa in Taraso circle along the Assam-
Sources said that on being informed by the local villagers, a team of Arunachal police from the nearby police station immediately rushed to the area and intervened in the matter, and finally succeeded to convince Assam Forest officials to return back.
It may be mentioned here that the Union ministry of home affairs had directed the Assam government to immediately stop construction of forest camps along the disputed boundary with Arunachal Pradesh and maintain status quo. The ministry's director (northeast), Ajay Kanoujia, sent a message to the commissioner and secretary (home) of Assam recently directing him to immediately stop work at Tarasso which might escalate tension in the boundary area. The directive came after the home commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh wrote to the MHA on April 18 seeking its intervention in the matter. The commissioner also drew the attention of the ministry on the reported sanction of Rs 19 lakh by the Assam government for erection of forest protection camps in the area.
A PTI report from Behali (Assam) added: "More than two and half platoons of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) force from Arunachal Pradesh side arrived in the Behali area today and got involved in an argument over the issue of setting up of camps and threatened not to do so at Radhasu point. They pushed back the forest guard team of Assam," Sonitpur DFO (East) A K Dey told PTI here.
Locals and different organisations, including Arunachal Agrasan Pratirodh Samiti, alleged that yesterday a forest guard team arrived in Chauldhowa area under Behali Reserve Forest to set up a forest camp.
In the meantime, some IRB personnel with sophisticated arms also arrived in the area and threatened the Assam forest guards not to set up the border outpost, resulting to escalation of tension in the area.

He also extensively visited various villages and went for trekking in nearby hills. Such was his enthusiasm that even poor weather condition did not deter him.
Impressed with the natural beauty of Ziro, Negi expressed hope that Ziro which has been tentatively listed for world heritage site (WHS) by UNESCO along with Thembang under West Kameng district will etch history and will be permanently listed as world heritage site.

A meeting was held on Saturday afternoon at UD guest, wherein Dr Tage Kanno, who has been silently working hard in world heritage project, made impressive power point presentation about what challenges lie ahead for Ziro to be chosen as WHS. “To be declared as WHS, that particular place should maintain its age old heritage with minimum effect of modernity. The committee to select WHS, during its last visit to Ziro made some observation in this regard. Now it’s a big challenge for us to convince local citizens about need to preserve tradition so that effect of modernity is minimized,” said Dr Kanno. He emphasized on the major role that has to be played by the district administration and the state government in order to ensure that Ziro fulfills all the criteria laid down by the committee.
Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Krishna Mohan Uppu informed that district administration will leave no stone unturned to make Ziro as WHS. Amidst financial constraint, employees urged not to panic

Orgs, late Dabi’s family call on CS, other officers
ITANAGAR, May 05: A delegation comprising presidents and general secretaries of Galo Welfare Society (GWS), Confederation of Service Association of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP), Arunachal Pradesh Elementary Teachers’ Association (APETA) and the wife of late Mathew Baki Dabi today met the Chief Secretary, Home Commissioner and high ranking officials of education department, including Secretary Education and Director of Elementary Education at their respective office chambers.
The delegation discussed in length with the senior officers of the caretaker state government for immediate appointment of wife of late Dabi as a teacher on special and compassionate ground. The delegation requested the Chief Secretary and Home Commissioner to speed up inquiry into the unnatural death case of Dabi.
Both the Chief Secretary and the Commissioner (Home) after patiently hearing the request told the delegation that the case has already been handed over to SIT. The Chief Secretary also told that the report of forensic examination will be required for expediting the investigation to unearth the truth behind death of Dabi.
Meanwhile, the All Arunachal Pradesh Elementary Teachers Association (APETA) in a separate press release said that it has requested for induction of the widow of Mathew Dabi as AT on compassionate ground with immediate effect within Model Code of Conduct period.
Late Mathew Dabi had lost his life while performing Election duty on April 9 last.
In its letter submitted to the chief secretary, it said, she is facing acute difficulty in maintaining the expenditure for children’s education as well as the household expenses.
Seeking immediate action, APETA further warned of resorting to democratic movement if the demand is not fulfilled.

ITANAGAR, Mar 05: A Rangshumhum (Rangfra Mandir) was inaugurated at Changlang Bazaar line by Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) general secretary Gichik Taaza yesterday in presence of other executive members.
The Rangshumhum Mandir building was constructed under the initiation of IFCSAP district unit and Rangfra Faith Promotion Society (RFPS), Changlang district.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Taaza suggested those people of Changlang and Tirap, who embraced western faith, to “come back in home”.
“Now, we the people of every community are chanting our prayer and conducting healing programmes in our own dialects and system. If you want to protect and promote indigenous culture, you should use and practice the indigenous system of chanting prayer with own dialect,” said Taaza.

Let me take the opportunity to tell the people that Donyi Polo as religion is being practiced by our ancestors from time immoral and was animist in nature. Animism’s sustainability in context of present day is very bleak which is known to all conscious people. Mr. Sethi should know that every religion passes through different phases of reformation in their history. Reformation is bound to happen and no one can criticize it. Therefore, Donyi Polo believers of so called Tani belt (according to Mr. Sethi) are trying to reform Donyi Polo Animist practice by upholding the ethos and rituals that was passed on to us from the ancestors.

Condemnable act
The news of physical assault on some of the teacher’s of Dera Natung Govt. College while performing examination duty on May 2 is quite disturbing to hear. As per the report they were assaulted while trying to stop some examinees from indulging in unfair means. In the past too report of physical assault on teachers has been reported from DN College. Such incidents should not be taken lightly by college authorities. The students involved should be expelled from college and police case be registered.
There should be no amnesty for those students who have no respect for their own teacher. The incident also exposes the dark side of our society. In this modern age when students are suppose to be competing with rest of the world, they are resorting to unfair means just to pass simple college exam. If they can’t pass college exam without cheating, then how can they aim to compete in various competitive exams. In Indian society teachers are considered next to god and if students do not respect teachers, then it is matter of serious concern. Society as a whole need to introspect and try to find out, where things are going wrong.
